To be hones, the site is not good but the music is excellent. For that reason (and me being a music lover) I would be more than glad to help you make it better. I have to worn you though, my schedule is busy and I have some tight deadlines so it could take time but eventually your band will get the site it deserves.

PM me if you are interested?

The site design and layout has some merit as for the content, the promotion of which is the reason for the sites existance.....
not being a music critic well let's just say I prefer something a bit more foot tapping and cheerful
though it did prompt me to rotate Sheryl Crow and Steeleye Span back onto my personal playlist.

The Gripes (what a great name for a band)
There's obviously some workarounds going on with the actual site on X10 being framed from another.

Slow loading - Classic 'I used a site builder' mistake. Huge images are being squeezed into the page when idealy they should of been resized BEFORE you add them to the page. Google for a copy of 'The Gimp' graphics editor, it's free and does far more than you can imagine.

Flash Image Slideshow - Probably suffering from the same problem as above judging by the way it loads despite being hosted on a seperate dedicated site. Could probably be better implemented with javascript/ Jquery locally from the x10 server.

Sidebar - minor hiccup with 'bouncing' on the rollover due to the CSS

CSS - ideally all CSS information should be in an external file as this makes globally editing the site much simpler.

As per ususal - lose the web counter and to avoid getting your email address spammed make sure it's 'cloaked' behind javascript or better still completely hidden from public view server side behind a contact form

There is this commercial on tv sometimes (Vh1 maybe?) and it’s of some band that is talking about their favorite songs. It is some website like zentunes….or something.

Thanks very much for all the great comments! Didnt think anyone would respond!! I have just re sized some of the pictures so that they load much faster now.

Regarding the slideshow, i did try to make a picture gallery using dreamweaver but i hated it and found it really annoying to work with so i opted out and used slideshow. I know it's a little slow but it kinda works. I suppose i could just put all the pictures up as small files so you can view and click on to make larger but wanted to keep things simple.

There are a few things i have no idea how to work out! Why is that whatever page i go to on the site the webpage name doesnt change ie it always says www.thewillowsband.co.uk not www.thewillowsband.co.uk/listen ? for example??? How do i get that to happen??

Also, just worked out how to do a favicon!!! WOO! Apparently it can take a little while to work so am hoping ive done it right and it will appear shortly!!

Thanks again for the comments!

C

ps regarding the email account, i was thinking of adding a comments/contact us box. Anyone got a good tip??8)

Actually, it's not that at all. The reason the title of the page isn't chaning is because your domain name (http://www.thewillowsband.co.uk/), has a frame code to your x10hosting subdomain. I'd recommend setting a parked domain so that they both point to the same place, and taking out the frame, so that your website loads the actual files, instead of a frame of them.

Well 'cliffw', you've done pretty good so far on your own without resorting to calling in a professional so hang in there and trust your own skills.

Putting in a javascript slideshow requires no specialist software tools, just cut and paste. http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex4/php-photoalbum.htm

As Niel pointed the problem with the page name is because of you using an iframe to make the content of the site stored at bestpet something to appear on the bands .co.uk web site. There are proper solutions to this and a couple or workarounds, I suppose the question should reaaly be why was it done like that in the first place? Then we could come back with a more tailored responce.

Nice to hear people like the music! Thanks very much!:)

So my situation so far is..

i set up an x10hosting account with name bestpc etc and made a trial website for pc stuff and then went on to make a site for my other band and then the willows. My domain name was bought from 123 reg and is now set to this..

Framed web-forwarding to a single page
If you select web-forwarding to a single page the destination URL can have a specific filename on the end (e.g. index.htm).
It could just point to a directory (URL ends with /) in which case the files displayed would depend on the webserver 'directory index' settings.
The destination URL will be replaced by thewillowsband.co.uk.

when you looked it was set up with this...

Framed web-forwarding
The destination URL will be replaced by thewillowsband.co.uk

is this wrong? Or do i need to do something in the html?! OR Do i need to change my domain name in x10hosting? is that were the problem is?

I can see you all shaking your heads now thinking Oh my god dude!

Thanks again for all the help! I shall have a play with that slideshow, thanks!

The lass on the extreme right looks very familiar.
Did you ever perform in Dublin?

Anywho, coming back to the issue, quite frankly I don’t understand the “love” for framed web-forwarding.
Do you have any special reason to do so?
Apart from ‘www.thewillowband.co.uk’-URL-only requirement.
Remember, if you use ‘iframe forwarding’, your site won’t be liked much by Google Search.

And, I (user) can still see
http://bestpcsale.x10hosting.com/The Willows 2/html/shop.html
on ‘shop’ button in
http://www.thewillowsband.co.uk/listen
So, it doesn’t give a good impression either.

If you want, you can use your uk domain as a main domain in x10.
To do that, just change dns nameserver setting in “123 reg “to

ns1.x10hosting
ns2.x10hosting

And wait for 48 hrs.

Cheers !
