The HTTPS method works great but only with the following conditions:

-The site actually offers an HTTPS Secured version. Sites like Facebook do, but most sites (particularly those that don't request information) do not.
-The network administrator only blocked http:// and not https://
-The network administrator didn't block entire IPs.

The IP method works fine only if:

-The domain is on a dedicated server with its own IP.
-The network administrator didn't block entire IPs.

For situations where the above conditions can't be met, I recommend a free proxy service or VPN such as http://www.hidemyass.com/ (assuming this isn't blocked)

Novell Networks do not have a Novell web filter behind them as Novell is simply a domain management system. The Web Filters are often dedicated servers used only to filter and firewall web traffic, so really this may or may not work depending on the situation. Most filters I've seen ignore the difference between HTTP and HTTPS unless specifically told to not do so, and will block the domain name regardless.

Additionally using these services is just .. King stupid.

Read the IT policy folks. It's against it. Which can lead to disclipinary action being taken or your access to the Internet being revoked if you're using them to get around the site filters. If there is a legitimate reason for getting on a website that is blocked then you will be able to get the IT department to unblock it for you.
