If you write the .htaccess manually, there should be no problem. Think they are talking about the cPanel directory protection feature (which uses .htaccess ), not .htaccess in general.

Edit/Add... on second thought, I see on the web that Frontpage wants you to do it "their way" and messing with the .htaccess might cause problems with Frontpage. Sounds like Microsoft.

Yeah, But default .htaccess which is created while creating the hosting account contains the the Fontpage keyword in default.htaccess file. and that is preventing that, I tested with and changing it on my account. The Password protected directories worked perfectly when I made changes as I said above.
