    Flyer is leaflet advertising for events, services, night club and other activities. Flyers are used by organizations to promote their product or service. It is a form of small scale marketing. Flyers are given out in streets or distributed at events. Flyers are widely used because, it is an effective form of direct marketing and it is cheap to produce compared to other modes of advertisement.

    Flyers started using widely because of the spread of desktop publishing system. The shift from traditional printing services to the modern internet enabled services gave a boost to the increased use of Flyers in direct marketing. When compared other forms of advertisements like News paper, internet and TV, Flyers are very economical.

    I agree. I am a long time graphic designer (started before computers were used) and I have been designing flyers forever, it seems. One addition I want to make regarding the primary motto of designers should not only be the satisfaction of the client, but the effectiveness of the design. If the client is happy with the design, but the marketing strategy fails, first of all, client is no longer happy, and he probably won't come back to you for repeat business. Understanding the market helps.
