Switch binary/ASCII modes without re-uploading?

If I accidentally upload files as the wrong mode, can I switch them from binary to ASCII or the other way around without reuploading? I'm going to go ahead and re-upload a forum script I accidentally uploaded in binary (causing "500 Internal Server Error") but for future use this would be handy, especially if I was uploading larger files.

I'm not really sure about this, but I think that files may get corrupted if you upload them in an incorrect mode.
It would be better if you re-upload them in the correct one.
