As a wise man said: shit happens (even complete datacenters may burn down to the ground, as it happened earlier this year in Strasbourg, France).
As a remnant of the desaster there were left some junk files in the upper levels of the ftp directories easily to be identified by a prefix of capital letters, which had to be deleted.
As a little advice for the other admins of affected websites, I would recommend to go to the Google search console and trigger a recheck of the website, since due to the length of the outage chances are high, that the Google spider visited the page meanwhile and grabbed into nothing producing a website covering error, which may have consequences for the search ranking.
