I personally enjoy the performance and reliability of Windows XP Professional. I've taken careful steps to achieve maximum performance out of it. :)

I prefer whatever works. Everyone can have a preferred OS since it's a personal preference. But since I'm a gamer by heart, I'm all for Windows. :D It was build with extensive support for gaming, graphic and sound. ^^

I use Windows the most, mainly because it's installed on the computers at my school, and because it can play games. I sometimes use Kubuntu.

I think you need at least 1GB of RAM to run Vista. (Unless you mean you have 256MB of Graphics Card RAM, then that'll be fine.)

I don't think I'll ever get vista, it's just too expensive and too buggy.

Personally, I think you should wait another year to year and one half. This will allow Microsoft to work on Windows Vista and release patches to fix all the bugged problems with the OS right now.

As for the RAM question, I suggest anywhere from 1GB to 2GB of RAM and maybe a 128MB or 256MB graphics card. And if your CPU is a little on the slow side, might want to upgrade that too. :D

I stick with windows, but as far as Vista goes... I got rid of it as the driver support was very poor for the main programs I use, for others it's probably fine but not for me!

First, Mac Leopard (Don't have it. Yet.)
Second, Windows XP Professional.
Both work, and that's all that matters.

Wow! that is sad. KDE 3 in Kubuntu Linux runs perfectly fine, and fast, with 512MB of RAM. You can even run KDE 4 with 512MB RAM.

Good idea. Every expert agrees not to get Vista becasue if its massive requirements, security holes, stability problems, and bugs.

Personally, I just tell everyone just to use Linux. Fewer bugs, more stability, no viruses, no spyware, less requirements, and you don't need to worry about lawyers and copyrights as much. It is just much more simple, especially for the casual PC user.
Edit:

I'm the opposite. My wireless card installed perfectly in Kubuntu 7.10 while will not run properly on windows. Actually, win xp screws up my wireless router every time I try to connect.

Have you tried using Ubuntu or Kubuntu 7.10? It haves an automatic proprietary driver install for things like video cards and wireless cards.

Windows haves no more support for games then any other operating system. It is just as easy for a company to make a game for Mac, windows, or Linux. Many game manifacturers simply choose wondows because more people use it, and becasue M$ encourages the companies to have windows only games. Several companies make games also for the Mac and Linux. ID software, for instance, is very Linux friendly and releases all their games on Linux.

Nowhere near. On my friend's computer, Vista uses 500MB of RAM right after booting. And it occupied 20GB of harddisk space when he got the machine (it was pre-installed, so it may have had some crapware).

On topic, I use linux almost exclusively.

i use vista ultimate 64 bit edition on a gaming pc with 6GB RAM and 1.7GB graphics(using 0.7GB of the RAM dedicated, very stable and great for those extensive DX10 games.
RAM usage is about 2GB at boot and goes to around 1.4GB but dont have much affect on the 6GB.
500GB HDD plus 250 external for use with laptop, while away with caravan (great for movies ;))

been with windows since horrible horrible 95, 98, 98second edition, XP, XPSP2 and now vista SP1, and hopefully SP2 ;)

*off topic* - ah well theres a life story about my life, involving pc's everwhere, without them im nothing ;)

I use windows 98SE. If I have to switch again, it's back to Linux for me. I may go back to Linux anyway, I feel more secure. I don't like the feeling that someone is looking in my "windows".
