I want to transfer my domain to x10, but it says there's a $9.95 annual fee? Annual? A transfer is a one-off action, so why would I be paying annually for it?
I asked Google and it said:
No, domain transfers aren't an extra annual fee
; instead, the cost is typically a mandatory one-year domain renewal with the new registrar, adding a year to your existing registration, with no loss of time, plus a potential flat transfer fee (which can be $0 for some TLDs like .au). You pay for the year of service upfront with the new provider, effectively combining your next annual fee into the transfer cost, and you don't lose any existing registration time
