X12 email failed login

suddenly email is not working (again)
cannot login to my x10hosting email accounts
using Thunderbird on my desktop or Roundcube from the portal.
Error message on main account is "login failed"
Error message on other accounts is "connection to server mail.[domain].x10host.com was reset"
.
back in February, I had to enable a setting to fix authentication errors
prior to that (3 months or so?) I had to change from the server that worked for several years to mail.[domain].x10host.com to get email working again.
.
I am not trying to be a nag, more to supply with history.
What needs to be done?
(host is x12)

almost a week, and no advisories.
.
started reversing the changes over the last couple of months, and what worked was changing from mail.[domain].x10host.com back to x12.x10hosting.com.
.
Is there somewhere that I am failing to look to be notified of these changes?
It would be a lot easier (and quicker) than "hacking" trying to figure it out.
