Yes, it is common and normal that the defaulwebpage shows for bit, while the system "activates" the domain for your account. It does show when the domain points to the server, but the server does not really know where to point it yet. The reason ftp works, is that is handled a bit differently...

That domain does not redirect when I go to it. Might have been dns propagation (depending on how you set the redirect), or possibly cache. I have not heard of errors on changing password, what is the error message you are getting?
