I cannot access my ftp server, it says the host may be down? please help & fix?

I've been trying to install simple machines on my account via their .zip file. When i try and extract it under file manager, it comes up with it not finding anything, but when i open it up on my computer it comes up with files? Please explain this, or fix it.
