    My guess is that there is a plugin that's "interfering". Are you using a cache plugin (like wp-cache) ? You have to clear the cache to see the changes. Try disabling and re-enabling any S.E.O. plugin, just to see if it's not interfering too.

    From past experience, this looks like a plugin or theme problem. You can disable any plugin or theme by renaming their folder/file (by ftp) and then reloading the Wordpress control panel again. Hope it helps.
