I am using Joomla to create my site, Joomla has a administration backend where you can install components, modules, plugins etc. by uploading a .zip archive. Most of the components are installed succesfully, but I occasionally get a 500 Error. Sometimes retrying solves the problem, but with some components I keep getting the error.
Jomsocial for example gets uploaded correctly but during the installation in 11 steps I keep getting the 500 Error at step 4 or 5.

I am sure my file permissions are set correctly and I use the .htaccess file that came with the default installation of joomla, it is not empty nor modified.

The error:

[h=1]500 Error[/h] An internal server error has occurred. Please try your request again momentarily.

  • File or directory permissions are set too high: Files should be 0644, directories 0755.
  • Problem with your .htaccess file.
  • A syntax error in a CGI script.
