I'm evaluating the free x10hosting before moving all my stuff here to a premium account. Since I have 3 different websites, each with their own domain name, I am trying to figure out how to set this up properly in separate subdomains.

So, in cPanel I have created an Addon domain and used one of my free domain names for testing things out, let's call it mysite.com. In the subfolder that was generated when creating the Addon I have put an blank index.htm page. Lastly I have also configured mysite.com in my (external) domain manager panel to point to x10hosting name servers ns1/ns2.

Opening mysite.com will correctly go to the associated subdomain but the URL in the browser then expands to http://mysite.myaccount.x10host.com/ which I do not want.

My question is how to avoid that? Do I need to approach this differently? Sorry if this has been answered before, I searched the forum but did not find any relevant answers.

It is possible that the redirect is caused by a setting in any cms/forum ect you have installed, wordpress for instance creates a redirect to the domain used during installation, so to use it on another domain settings need to be updated accordingly. To be able to troubleshoot further it would help knowing the domain name.

I only have a simple index.htm file uploaded, that is all. I just noticed that this was not an issue in Edge but in Firefox only, which is the browser I use. So I cleared recent cache and history and now it works as expected.

Just one further but off topic question; What's with all these posts asking for unlimited disk space? I don't need it, just being curious?

On free hosting you can get unmetered (not quite the same as unlimited but essentially the same for the end user) disk space if needed, as long as you meet the requirements to be eligible for it.
1. Hosting account must be at least 7 days old
2. Hosting account must be in par with ToS
3. At least half of the initial space must be used up already.

Thanks Anna for the info. I must say I am impressed by the level of support for a free account. Looking good so far and you can count me in as a new customer very soon. Now I just need to start migrating my web and databases... *sigh*
