Are google ads allowed to be placed?

I've been hearing some weird talk about google adsense not allowed and I thinking:

... That's like the whole reason I wanted to make a site!! Provide content and make moolah!

So what's the deal with placing my own ads?

@ TarinC As far as I know you have to get in touch with Corey or Auvee if you want the google ads. This is the way it used to be, I`m assuming it still is.
