I was trying to find out what services are available for free hosting prior to registering, but I couldn't find this information anywhere. I'm interested in services like: FTP, PHP, MySql, cronjob, as well as the quotas on disk space/disk transfer and traffic quota.

This Free Hosting wiki entry ought to answer most of your questions. Do note that your initial account space will be either 512MB or 1GB (depending on the setup and assigned server) that can be expanded to unmetered on request once your account is established (see this thread for more).
