My aunt recently got a DSL kit from Bell Sympatico. After setting it all up and installing everything, I went to access the internet but nothing will load. When I check my connections in 'Network Connections' (Windows XP) the connection is good and sending and receiving packages succesfully. No firewall, I reset the DNS and still nothing. Can anybody help?

when did your aunt order it? if she ordered it awhile ago and you just received the kit recently, it might take a few more days for the ISP to set up your internet

with sbc/atnt/yahoo dsl, we received the access point etc., but it took another 3-4 days just for our DSL service to be activated

lol, Spartan that's those interent services. I had Bell Sympatico a while back and your internet account is already setup & active before you receive your kit. They are extremely professional & specialize in one topic. (unlike Yahoo..)

i would consider going to the following link and downloading it. It's worked several times with me. For some reason the Winsock Registry has been screwed with or something, I've got a little sister (5 years-old) that sits around at the computer all day. Anyway, this should fix your problem with Winsock. Usually a symptom of Winsock being screwed with is if you can access anything else that is not in an IE interface or similar, for instance i believe i could still access AIM or MSN, etc.

hope this helps! here's the link: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html

My ISP sends you a Speedstream modem and a piece of paper that tells you how to set it up.

I didn't use the piece of paper.

I don't really care what you did Dewayne. I asked for help and that was a waste of a post. Next time, you will be warned.

I bet you installed the WHOLE sympatico disk didnt you. You should have probably just used the drivers off the disk for the modem. I have setup accounts with sympatico millions of times, and I have never used the whole disk, its not needed all that is neded is for the computer to find the dsl modem and for it to have drivers. It will ask for username and password by default if its needed. Installing the whole disk is a waste of time.

Yeah but its probably a simple solution.

Geoff: I couldn't get through the whole CD because they couldnt confirm that the modem was connected.

The cd wouldnt confirm the modem was connected. Thats probably why its not connecting. ( I would think) I personally would uninstall the cd, unhook the dsl modem, clean the registry of any entries concerning the modem and then hook up the modem again and only use the cd for drivers if you need it. Xp should pick up on it and do everything for you. The cd only confuses things most of the time. It might work for you.

To clean the registry I use a program called regseeker (google it) Its free and small and a very good program. This is just a suggestion as to what I would do. REMEMBER if you play with anything set a restore point first and/or backup BEFORE playing with the registry.

I was insinuating that you might consider reading the manual.... Just a thought.

So you must use a CD to use your internet? I trust nothing with that requires you to install/use their crap ware.

Did you try to set your DHCP and local network via your router? If you have one....

1. Manuals are not cool.
2. No just the modem setup can be done through a CD.
3. No router.
