Witch forum system do you think is the best to install on a website PHPBB or vBulletin

I prefer to use phpbb3 as it is easy to install and is free the administration control panel is simple and it has all features for warnings and banning

same here but not only that it is also open source so you can edit as you see fit the only down side is that it is more open to attack by hackers due to the open source

I got PHPBB yesterday and I think it is quite hard to understand it at first, but then it has a lot of features. I say that but i have never used vBulletin as an administrator and so I guess I can't really compare.

Yes, but vBulletin has every single feature of that except for the free part... care to come up with a better argument?

For a free forum, phpBB3, vBulletin is already the automatic winner, despite the cost over free and pay forum software.

Well the argument now lies at ... do you want to pay for top notch forum system being VBulletin , or go for the free open source PHPBB3.. i would take VB if i had the cash, but PHPBB3 is an ok system.

VBulletin costs too much.

IPB costs way too much.

Phpbb2 is anti-intuitive and hackable.

Phpbb3 makes little sense and is hackable.

MyBB is the best because it has very few flaws :D

vBulletin for the fact that you can do almost everything that can be done in a forums. But as QuwenQ pointed out, you have to pay for it. Mostly corporate companies go for this and personal users could do with a free open source one.

If you're willing to shell out $150 (USD), then vB is the way to go. Otherwise, SMF is your best bet or if you really must, script your own! It's amazing what you can do with basic PHP skills ;)

vBulliten is the best forum software out there in my opinion. But the best free forum software is by far phpbb. With the new release out, it has almost the equivalent of vBulliten's features!

If you have enough budget to buy a forum software I suggest vBulletin or IPB. If you do not have enough to buy then use MyBB, because i think mybb is similar to vbulletin...

So far, I like and am using phpBB3. I don't even look at software I have to buy...yet. I've tried many free "boxed" sites via wampserver, before getting my space here, and phpBB3 was the only one to install properly, with no problems, the first time. The only thing I had to do before installation, was create a database. The installation took care of everything else. Yes, it took a while to understand, but it's usually the same with anything you try for the first time. Once you get to know it, it's pretty easy.

Another program I'm playing with is Typo3. It's taking a little longer to learn, but I think it would be a great tool for me later. The PC version has got a wamp type server built in, so you don't have to be online to test the results. When my site is running here, I'll be playing with Typo3 for a while.
