I prefer Vbulletin because the admincp is very simple yet efficient. The menu on the left side of the control panel is tons better than phpBB3 or phpBB2 (although PHPBB2 is almost as good). VB is better than PHPBB2 because the look is generally better, and yes, I love the admin cp. I have never used the other two, but I doubt they are as good as VB

For most control over your forums and users, IPB without a doubt.

I've used all the forum software you've stated, plus more, and IPB is a cut above the rest. There are literally thousands of functions available in the ACP, not to mention the extremely large quantity of Mods and Hacks available. The only drawback I see is the price.

The next rank would be for vBulletin; another forums software with a easily navigational control panel, and user management systems, a great ACP logging system and, dare I say, MILLIONS of available mods. However, they do need to spend more time doing beta tests before they release newer versions; anyone else notice how many 'bug' updates there usually is, in a small amount of time?

vBulletin.

It just has a better look, you wouldn't get a good skin like this one here at x10, on one of those other ones. vBulletin skins are just so much better.

Many of the organizations/people who design vBulletin skins, also do so for a large quantity of other forum software.

Ever heard of Skin By Dragonfly? She makes the most AMAZING skins I have ever seen in my life, out of any forum/blogging/community software. Check out her I-Tab skin for IPB at D-Scripting's forums; I'ld like you to show me a skin made solely for vBulletin that can challenge that.

Though phpBB is an openSource script and good for personal, small & medium sized communities. vBulletin is preferred for Professional & Big sized communities.

I use SMF, but I wanna switch to either Vbulletin or IPB. Don't really like PHPBB.

I love the SMF Arcade feature on my SMF forum. Once you register to the forum, you can play games on it and scores are recorded and you can compete with other members. My members are addicted and are very very competitive! Huge scores on old classic games like pacman and other goodies.

I think that feature is available on other boards as well.

The thing I really dislike about SMF is that I don't think it has much control. You don't have much control over your members. That's why I wanna switch.

SMF is a good easy starter forum for people who just start to install forums.

Hmmm, I think I'll change soon. Still haven't decided whether I should use IPB or VBulletin....

In my opinion, it all depends on what community you intend to hold. If you're holding a small and simply community, I suggest you open with phpBB for best use. Though, if you're adamant about security, then I suggest SMF.

If you want better and easier control over a large community, then use IPB. If you want professional, easy-to-use, easy-to-understand, etc... and you have a large community, then I suggest you use vBulletin.

There are tons of modifications for vBulletin to make it more personal and represent you. The new version, 3.7.0 is being, the beta, is being released soon for public use. Currently, it's only being used by vBulletin, the official vBulletin site. It has more features. Unfortunately, all the templates and modifications after 3.6.8 PL2 have to be recoded to be compatible with 3.7. Another down side to it, vBulletin takes up a lot of resources unless you alter things such as User CPs, queries to the server, etc... But, personally, I use vBulletin most often.
