A HACKER who was miffed that he couldn’t view his HD movies on his computer set-up, gave himself a target of four weeks to crack the AACS specification. However, apparently it turned out so easy that he only took eight days.

The bloke, who goes by the handle Muslix64, bought a HD-DVD drive to plug on his PC, and a HD movie.

Then he released that the two software players on windows don't allowed him to play the flick at all, because his video card was not HDCP compliant and because he had a HD monitor plugged with DVI interface.

Muslix64 told the doom9 forum that the AACS specification made him mad because it was not 'fair use' to own an HD monitor and not be allowed to watch an HD movie, which he paid for.

PS. Hacker is spoused to be cracker, but some are too stupid to know it.

I don't think you can post warez here so I am going to edit your post.

a) its not warez.

[google=define:warez]Google: define:warez[/google]:
Pronounced wayrz or wayrss. Commercial software that has been pirated and made available to the public via an electronic Bulletin Board System (BBS) or the Internet. Typically, the pirate has figured out a way to de-activate the copy-protection or registration scheme used by the software. Note that the use and distribution of warez software is illegal. In contrast, shareware and freeware may be freely copied and distributed.

b) It's till available when you click on news link, wanna remove it too? :D

Liable, you mean? :D

Like one of the guys said in the Doom9 thread: I think the guy did a good job, but indeed, perhaps he released it too soon, considering HD-DVD is still in its infancy and hasn't reached deep market penetration (where a change in specs won't alienate that much people if it was to happen). Oh well, I'm sure someone else will step up to the plate then, when that happens.

If you can access the data, it can be cracked. Let them fix it. Someone'll break it again. Proof? Securom, SafeDisc, and Starforce. You may have noticed NONE are at version 1 - if memory serves, securom's at 7, safedisc is at 4, and starforce is at 3. Why?

Someone broke the previous versions. Some games with these are already broken (no-cd patches and the like). And someone will break the next versions.

Edit: Quick note, I doubt sony's gunna fix the blu-ray spec's - they have a $499/$599 system that broke the 800,000 unit mark recently, and I somehow doubt they're going to just recall them on a whim without some hard evidence that the copyprotection has been compromised :S
