Ok, Maybe Im asking the wrong questions here, So I will update this posting..........

As you are aware, through my postings i have sent you will be aware that I am still having problems working out how to sort out my smtp mail settings in Joomla.

I have spent now almost 2 days trying various ways of getting this to work, i have followed forum leads, looked all over the net. php mailer, sendmail and using the smtp. does not seem to be sending out emails.

So I think the question is, that on my package, freehost, ad-free, is it possible to use smtp to send emails via joomla?

I would much appreciate it if someone would advise me.

ok.... just added email config to my incredimail... and all works...

Admin, can you let me know why it doesnt work in/through Joomla? as I would like my members and future members to use the email verification mailer and mass mailer
Edit:
hmmmm

The mail system is up and working, you might have to get support from Joomla on this as I have no experience with the script and am not sure why it wouldn't work.

Hi Corey...

I appreciate you looking into this matter... as i said, i have been up on this matter for 2 days. I managed to get somewhere, but the settings are still messed up! you may be right, it maybe a joomla problem solving thing.

it seems, if someone registers from a hotmail or other account, it sends me a confirmation that someone had joined up. now it has stopped sending me emails altogether... lol.. But when I added another account with reg@ampdt.exofire.net, i signed up using that email addy, it sent it and and i got the verification email. (all seem to work, until I tested it again with ampdt@hotmail.com address and it didnt work, so it seems that it works for the inhouse server emails, but not external emails. Does that all make sense.... well, im heading over to Joomla to see what they say!

I like X10, and thats why I signed up with you guys, so I hope to sort this matter out if it takes me forever... lol...

Keep up the good work.

Whats the FROM mail address you have in your Joomla configuration. That mail account MUST exist. If it doesn't, mails won't work. This is the new addition in Security measurements of popular CMSs like Drupal, Joomla, etc...

AND... that mail address must be in the same domain as of your site.

Check that first.

Yes my admin email is the same: reg@ampdt.exofire.net

these are my details in the joomla mail config:

Mailer: SMTP Server
Mail From: reg@ampdt.exofire.net
From Name: reg@ampdt.exofire.net
Sendmail Path: /usr/sbin/sendmail
SMTP Auth: Yes
SMTP User: reg+ampdt.exofire.net
SMTP Pass: *************
SMTP Host: localhost

I have followed numorous guides and forums. but still not getting anywhere,

I am getting emails sent to my external email client (incredimal) from my reg@ampdt.exofire.net saying:

Hello reg@ampdt.exofire.net,

A new User has registered at AMPDT.
This e-mail contains their details:

Name - microman
E-mail - FPMarine@gmail.com
Username - microman

Please do not respond to this message as it is automatically generated and is for information purposes only

But still no one is getting the activation mail.

Thanx guys for ure help! I really really appreciate it..."
Edit:

OWCH......

Thanx Micro.... We seem to be getting somewhere now....

Wow...

So how do we get around the blockers for hotmail and others....? is there something I can tell my subscribers

>>>> lol<<<< :p

Hotmail accepts " Forgotten passwords " but not the "activation"....

it must be the link activation that these accounts like hotmail & btinternet dont like.....
Is there any way of taking out the links to the activation and making it cut and paste....
Wouldnt that stop it being spam?

Strange.....

Well, Im off to bed guys, will check post in morning... Here in Wales its almost 4am, that makes it almost 3days of toil over this... lol... So once again thank you for your help and god bless u.

There isn't much you can do besides re-word the welcome Email to stop them from flagging it as spam. At least nothing on our end.
