I'm trying to re-install Wordpress through Fantastico in to one of my parked domains. However, I get the below error, even with other CMS installations. The error happens even if I choose my original domain.

- You cannot install more than one script in the root directory of a domain.

I'm assuming that a file in the .fantastico folder - that records what is installed in the root - is behind the problem. But I can't get at it because I don't see it in the cpanel file browser (don't have access to ftp software at the moment.)

Could you take a look please?

So you do not have a script currently installed in root?

If you had already installed it just click Wordpress in fantastico, select your installation and then unisntall it. It will bypass all the stuff if it can't find it and remove itself from Fantastico's database.
