can't acess ftp

hi,
I can't access ftp. I tried to use the client and also thorough internet explorer. There is an error saying that it cannot be contacted. how do i fix this problem??

where it says to enter your address for ftp, just enter your subdomain.x10hosting.com and your username is your subdomain, and your pass is your pass. I don't think it's gonna work through internet explorer!

I tried that, it still didn't work! It says connection failed!

Then probably the ftp server is down, I tried mine and it works, IDK.

Umm......... IDK sounds weird, maybe your fire wall is blocking port 21.

yeah, mabey or if you have a router, you have to open up port 21, or your software firewall is blocking the program!

well im using windows xp sp2.. i found the add port as an exception function..
i know i unblock port 21, but do i check tcp or udp?

when in doubt, check both lol, and also there is a server that is on the fritz right now, so this may be the answer to your problem, i think there is a server down, and no admin quite knows of it yet
