Cant connect MYSQL server through socket

Hi, for the past couple days my site has been VERY slow which it has never been before so its quite odd. Today i just tried going onto my site and i got this message:

Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (11)

If this is my problem im sorry for my ignorance, im on the cossacks server and my site is

MYSQL server is down at the moment...

Please have patience admins are working on it..
