I've been doing this for about 20 years, using both paid and free hosting, and I've never had a problem with FTP. I put my host FTP address in the slot, put my username in the slot, put my password in the slot and we're off!

Why can't I get it to work at this host and the 9 others I tried before it? Obviously I'm doing something wrong. Though in the appropriate slots I put everything I'm told in the instructions.

Admittedly I wonder what could possibly be the use of having to set up various accounts of the FTP variety. Totally unnecessary. Beside the point.

I can't get my FTP to work!

Response: 530 Login authentication failed
Error: Critical error: Could not connect to server

if you use FileZilla - you must disable the option for multiple connections otherwise x10hosting's firewall may block you

in filezilla --> Edit (top of screen) --> Settings --> Transfers --> Concurent transfers - set all three to "1"
###

CAUTION: your IP can be blocked by x10hosting's firewall - for too many "Failed" FTP logins in a short period

The FTP details you need for FileZilla (or other FTP client):
click on icon at top lefthand side of screen (Open the Site Manager)
click on [ New Site ] - enter a name for your site

Host: (your account's primary (main) domain) or (your server's IP address) - Port: 21

Protocl: FTP - File Transfer Protocol

Encryption: Use plain FTP

Logon Type: Normal

User: (your cPanel user name)

Password: (your cPanel password)

click on [ Connect ]

ensure you are using your account's primary (main) domain name as the FTP "host" - To authenticate - use your cPanel username and your cPanel password
giving you full access to your account

If you are trying to create an additional FTP account in cPanel - your extra accounts will be suffixed by the "@" symbol followed by your domain name. For example, if I made an extra FTP user named "admin", I would need to connect with the username "admin@website.x10host.com".
