CGI Scripts not working

I am trying to install GPTEngine. I try to use the installer in the cgi-bin folder, and I also used the correct permissions, but a 500 error comes.

Some info: I can't decide which one..
  • Hosting with suCGI and suPHP or equivalent
    • 644 for the robots.txt file
    • 644 for the gpte/css/cms_style.css file
    • 644 for the gpte/jscripts/gpte_layout.js file
    • 755 (recursively) for the gpte/plugins folder
    • 755 (recursively) for the gpte/themes folder
    • 600 for the cgi-bin/gpte.aux file
    • 755 for the cgi-bin/tmp folder
    • 700 for the cgi-bin/*.cgi files
  • Hosting setup without suCGI and suPHP or equivalent
    • 666 for the robots.txt file
    • 666 for the gpte/css/cms_style.css file
    • 666 for the gpte/jscripts/gpte_layout.js file
    • 777 (recursively) for the gpte/plugins folder
    • 777 (recursively) for the gpte/themes folder
    • 666 for the cgi-bin/gpte.aux file
    • 777 for the cgi-bin/tmp folder
    • 755 for the cgi-bin/*.cgi files
