When you go into 'msconfig' (System Configuration Utility) - by going to run and then typing msconfig and then pressing enter, the startup list area, all you can do is enable or disable the auto-startup of those items.

Is there a way to actually delete items out of that list, such as applications that are no longer on your computer? cause mine is rather long now and is starting to repeat applications that it had previously.

I am currently trying regedit to look for any registry entries but am not having much success. The 'run' thing under Windows and CurrentVersion only has 2 items in it which are the Sun Java thingy and Zone Labs Security Suite thingy.

Alright listen closely.

1. Start>All Programs>Startup Delete everything.

2. Start>Run>regedit

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>MICROSOFT>WINDOWS>CURRENTVERSION>RUN

That is your list of items on startup. Delete what is neccessary.

3. Start>Run>regedit

HKEY_CURRENT_USER>SOFTWARE>MICROSOFT>WINDOWS>CURRENTVERSION>RUN

List should be shorter but again, delete what you don't want.

That should do it... Also download CCleaner (www.ccleaner.com) and they have a startup configuration tool in the program.

If you have Microsoft's Windows Defender, you can do it via a graphical interface. Here are the steps:
  1. Open up Windows Defender
  2. Go to "Tools"
  3. Go to "Software Explorer"
  4. Remove any item you please.
