I believe it has something to do with being compatible in every browser, because I image your forum will not look the same in every browser.

Except from that, I haven't a clue why you would want it to be XHTML valid

I've tried to make my forum as pleasant as possible for my visitors eyes (neither too dark nor too bright) and there will be content when I got some members to post there.
