could we have another forum like crossfire with the ability to hide our identity from each other (not the staff or the forum system) just hiding us from the public

I would like to post some really juicy stuff but I would like to hide my identity...

Could you just make another account?

x10hosting only allows one account per person, so this wouldn't work.

As for the idea overall, I'm on the fence whether I agree. Part of me wants to say that you should stand behind what you have to say and if people don't like it then deal. However, another part of me wants to say that I wouldn't be saying this if there had been some kind of negative backlash against me because of things I've said in the off-topic and crossfire forums. To be honest, I think these forums are a decent place to put yourself out there and see what happens. If people don't like it, oh well. Most people are pretty fair about controversial / 'juicy' topics.

I believe that such a system would not benefit the community. One saying that I use regularly is that if you don't want to say something while affirming your identity, you should probably not say it at all... however there are always some legit exceptions

I personally do not support this idea as it encourages abusive behavior. If you want to say something, you should say it with pride. Nobody's going to make fun of you for doing so (if you haven't noticed yet, I have posted some pretty controversial and unconventional topics here before).

x10hosting is very nice and plesaure!

Looking at your posting history and how irrelevant it is, it seems like you only made that post so you could avoid inactivity suspension. Note that posting is not necessary to keep your account active; you only have to log in.

Oranges or grapefruit? I like grapefruit! :yumyum:

On the face of it, this would appear to be correct. However Russ (ex-staff) recently posted the following which now casts some doubt over that ;

Actually, with the new site and all the policy was changed. You may have more than one account now, just don't go crazy with it, and understand violating tos with one site could get them all removed.

I actually think the idea has some merit, though unfortunately I doubt x10 will ever implement it.

Any abusive behaviour could still be stamped on by staff, as your identity still wouldn't be hidden from them.

Whilst it is true that one should only say what one is proud of & can "stand behind" out in the real world, what one posts on the internet is a totally different thing.

Here, things are saved for a very long time, & searchable by anyone in the world - they are not just accessible only by those to whom you were originally making your points.

Added to this is the fact that over a period of time, you may have posted many other things about yourself, your opinions, your activities & many small clues about your identity - even if you were planning to remain reasonably anonymous.

The result of all this is that there are potentially many unpleasant consequences. At any time in the future a person or body of people may take a dislike to something you have written, & decide to use it against you.

It could be something simple like someone attacking your website. But it could also be a person or fascist government in the future that, for example, decides to track down & "deal with" everyone of a certain religion. Very nasty.

Many of us have our businesses advertised in our websites. These websites may either be shown in our sigs, or may have been referred to in another thread elsewhere. We generally would not want to alienate potential customers who Google for our websites & then stumble upon our posts here & personal views on something - however much we may stand behind those views. If nothing else, it just isn't very professional for a business to be associated with personal opinions.

And for those of you still at school, remember that employers are now using the internet to screen job applicants. Something you write here, however much it might be unrelated to the job you are applying for, may put off that potential employer.

So lots of reasons why it is sometimes more sensible to remain anonymous here!
