cPanel User IDs

Ok. I failed to login to cPanel as PGiraffe. My password was reset and I failed to login as PGiraffe, but succeeded as pgiraffe. I suggested that attempting to login any MiXed CasE ID as all lowercase might solve some login problems, and asked if this was correct. My thread was closed as solved without reply. So... I am suggesting again, and asking again.

Also, when I went through the setup routine and put in an email address of support@ and made a password, a popup asked me if I was changing the password for user PGiraffe or user pgiraffe - so it appears I now have 2 user ids, though the MiXed CasE one won't allow login. I canceled and made the support@ password my original password (PGiraffe's) and it didn't ask me which user - this tells me that PGiraffe still exists as originally created and has a different password from pgiraffe. I saw another mention of both users later (perhaps at changing the main password back into agreement).

Do I have two user IDs within cPanel? Can cPanel be set to be CasE insensitive for user ID? Will CasE matter in my foldername home/pgiraffe?

I thought the problem had been resolved, and if you still had the problem you could have reopened the thread. You only have one userid, i.e pgiraffe. All the characters should be in lower case. Use the password that was supplied along with it from the x10 Welcome mail. Your forum username is Pgiraffe. You will need to login to the forums and account management panel using the forum username and password whereas the cPanel has to be accessed with the cPanel username i.e pgiraffe

Thank you for your reply. I guess you don't see my true aim here. I am no longer concerned about logging into MY cPanel, I tend to look wider than a single concern. I searched, as requested, on my problem before posting the first time and noted this is a common problem. My post is an attempt to identify and solve everyone's problem as far as possible. It seemed likely to me that signing up with MIxED casE usernames might be common and a frequent reason for cPanel Login Failed. So if this is TRUE and the system CHANGES one's username to all lower case for cPanel specifically the posts about the problem could be solved in advance by pointing this 'feature' out in the welcome mail and in the FAQ. Also by posting about this I my help others who do search before posting.

I am still unclear as to why cPanel asked me about which user I wanted to change the password for in a pop-up box when I created an email account. Are there 3 separate passwords possible - account management panel, cPanel and forums - or only 2 - account management/forums and cPanel? Can cPanel be used to change the password for account management or forums? Perhaps I will figure this out on my own later. And I was able to change my cPanel password back.

Well. Either we prefer handling things on a case-by-case basis, or mixed case usernames will usually work...

Hi,

We actually do not have control over how cPanel stores\parses the user info. It defaults everything to lowercase upon sign-up no matter how you enter it. If you could suggest a feature in the feedback section for putting a note in the login pages I could definitely do that. I'm afraid I'd forget by the time I got to it though

Regarding changes your user names and passwords. You should technically only have 2 user names and passwords with us, one for your cPanel and one for your forum\account panel. If you create an Email account, you would then have an additional user name and password to be able to login to the webmail section of your site, but besides that I believe that's it.

Well, now it is on record for others who bother to search. If Login Attempt Failed is because they must enter their cPanel username all lowercase then they might attempt that fix before needing passwords reset and all that stuff.

Thanks for your attention. I recommend you just add 'all lowercase' to the login panel picture and be done. I'll put a link to your post above in the feedback section as requested, though. I think in the end it will save you some time.
