Does it show up in your device manager?

Make sure it is enabled. Right click on it in the device manager, then at the bottom make sure it is on enabled. Also this was shown on techtv and they said that sometimes nasty spyware can do this. but it is unlikely

Scan for viruses, spyware, adware. Quarantine/Delete and try, try again.

If you have system restore on you could always try going with it. Restore the computer to an earlier time before this problem happened, it should work then. If not it could possibly be the hardware.

This is common

Editting registry can be dangerous

[Start] [Run] [Regedit]
Registry Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class
Key Name: {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Value Data: [Delete All Value Data from UpperFilters and LowerFilters]
Note: Do not delete the Key or the Multi-String Values. Delete only the data values.
Exit Registry and Reboot
