Default Index not changed

How do I go about and change my index?? I am new on this and am hoping someone can help me with this. Any help will be appreciated.

just delete the html file in there and make a new file

upload it as index.htm or index.php so it is read by the server as the default page

You'll need a web site editor. Try Dreamweaver or Frontpage. Also, google HTML Tutorial.
