HI,

I wish to know what are the differences between parked domain names and addon domains?

This has always confused me and i've never really had a simple explanation. The cPanel explanation I have not found very helpful either.

Thanks

Parked domain is one that you buy. www.somedomain.com You buy it somewhere else, point that host's DNS to x10's nameservers and your domain works here at x10. :)

Addon domains are simply that... added-on. So your x10 account is, aguy.x10hosting.com. Well, with addon domains, you can create anotherguy.aguy.x10hosting.com, or agirl.aguy.x10hosting.com.... Get it? That way, you can point that addon domain to a subdirectory in your account and create a completely different site.

Correct about the parked domains, though incorrect about the add-ons.

What you are talking about is a subdomain, ie. something.whatever.com, which have their own section in cPanel. An addon domain is a domain name that that points to a subdirectory within your account. For example, you may want www.whatever.com to point to www.lolzwtf.com/whatever/. The addon domain will look completely independent to the outside world: it will look like www.whatever.com is its own independent site, but in reality is is simple a subdirectory of www.lolzwtf.com.

Yes, cynical is correct. Though I have noticed in CPanal, when you add an addon domain, it also gets added in subdomains....
