Its generaly known by linux users.
I am using open office on my windows computer (For 3d Modelling)
and it works twice better and takes less time to load cause it runs on java.
And java uses better enviroments etc.

Microsoft office uses an huge amount of .dll files to load with is more intensive to use!

And there is always alternative options to use on the computer.
Most alternative options are also free!

Here's the OO (Open Office) link from the OO website:

http://download.openoffice.org/index.html

I recommend you use version 2, I personally think it's better then the orginal version.

I think that file types should be open standards or have an api to access the file specs.
