I am only using wordpress on my site at the moment, and I have enabled a newsletter plugin (called newsletter) that wants to send out an email to confirm their subscription. I think perhaps you must be blocking/filtering the email though...
I sent up an email account newsletter@thewanderinghoneybadger.com and I can send and receive email from it directly - that works. In the newsletter plugin diagnostics page, there is a test function for testing email from wordpress and for sending out a newsletter.. they both work too sent to an external email account, i.e. brantbady@gmail.com
However, when use the wordpress page for signup to fire off the confirm email, when I use the internal email account i.e. newsletter@thewanderinghoneybadger.com it works fine and the subscription email arrives in my inbox there, but if I use my external email brantbady@gmail.com then the email is never received..
That makes me think that you are blocking or filtering email..
is it better to use the internal SMTP service, if so, what are the connections details..
