Is anyone having the problem of your site not being able to send emails?

Many members of my forum are complaining that they are not receiving notification even though they are subscribed.

It seems that SMTP is down.

I'm sure that admins are working to bring it up ASAP, so we can just wait :)

But I use PHP mail() function for emailing.

Is there a difference between using mail() and SMTP? Any advantages or disadvantages?

Uh, I'm not sure what do you mean :/

I already told you that mail() is a PHP function which is used by PHP scripts to easly send emails through predefined SMTP server.

A little off topic, however is there way to code an email script that uses a different SMTP other than the one here on x10??

Yes, of course.

Here a tutorial on how to send email thorugh external SMTP using PEAR. And here is one already made script.
