Every time I try to open a file with the code editor, it gives me some page about attempting to auto-detect the file's encoding--even if it's a file I just created on the cpanel itself. I select the "edit" button and it works just fine, but I can only have one page of code open at once. This is an enormous hassle for me, for I like to work with several pages at once--in fact, I really can't work efficiently if I can't look at several of them while I'm coding one. Is there anything I can do so that I can have more than one code editor window open like I used to?

I think cPanel FileManager has always allowed only ONE file to be open. FileManager is not the best to create a website, it's good to edit some files if you need a simple edit.
I recommend you to use an FTP client for what you want. Try FileZilla which is free.

I hate doing it that way, but I guess I'll have to. For the record, I used to be able to open many at once. I just had to right-click and tell it to open in a new tab/window.

Well, it's not something we can change. cPanel has updated recently, and it has made some changes in FileManager. We can't really control this things.

Feel free to re-open this thread if you need further assistance.
