my site wasn't coming up, so I went to the cpanel. I got this "[an error occurred while processing this directive]" and my subdomains, addon domains, and everything are gone. Is this because the HTTP is down?

Firstly, you really don't make a web server with anything other than Apache. I've tried it, and Apache made everything easy. And your sentence:

does not make much sense. Who is "us"? You seem to be a regular member, and it seems regular members seem to be making all this mess.

XAMPP is the "easy" way out. Running Linux isnt as easy as XAMPP.

XAMPP is XMail, Apace, MySQL, PHP, and Perl hence why its called XAMPP.

Apache itself cant do more than serve HTML pages.

I myself has a Linux box that I maintain at home were i have the following running.

  • Apache 2.0.59
  • MySQL 4.1.21
  • PHP 5.2.0
  • PgSQL 8.5
  • Perl 5.8
  • Python 2.3 i think

That took problely about 1-2 days to set up due to the fact it isn't easy, but ill waste that time because Linux is more stable and secure than windows.

I don't recommend any type of server on your home computer at all, thats all ill say.

Should set up a linux box and see if you can get that working.
