I'm having an issue with my File Manager.

My website is up and running with no probs, but when I went in to edit it via File Manager, finding the file, then right-click Edit HTML Code, every single page instead of loading the HTML Code editor, it pops up with a 404 Error.

Not using php, just simple html with some javascript for mouseover stuff.

My Error Log file is empty.

Any ideas?

No clue what FileZilla is.

I work on my website from 3 locations - Home, School, and Work (on lunch break), and literally can't download any software while at school (they've blocked downloads, and program installations) - which is why I thought the cpanel's File Manager was perfect - can work on the website from all 3 locations without having to download any new software.

Is there any way to find out why exactly its 404'ing on me when I try to load the WYSIWIG editor?? Is there a problem with the editor?

There could be lot of reasons for it.And what you are seeing correctly may be errant internally.
Apart from this, I think you are using new file manager in cPanel. Instead use legacy one. Or just check the file and click "edit".
You don't need any implied software to use ftp, even browser use this(listing).
In XP, go to my net places->add a net place-> enter your ftp url.rest is very understandable.

I get this 404 error while attempting the new file manager in cPanel, *and* the legacy file manager. I tried both before posting. And clicking the file and hitting edit gives me the same error!

As to the ftp: I can't use ftp programs, and I don't WANT to use FTP! I work on this site from 3 different locations, and can't download FTP programs onto the computers I work on the site from. Home computer is fine, I can download on that one, however the Work computer & the School computers are all locked down so you absolutely positively cannot install anything! As for using XP to run ftp, that'd be great if the work and school computers USED XP. They don't. School's using Vista, and Work's using 2000.

I'm getting frustrated. My first week using this webhosting service was great, but if no one can tell me what the damned problem is with the WYSIWIG editors or even willing to help me solve this problem, I might as well cancel the service.

1.About first error:1.Check whether your files are not corrupt. As if you don't save your files in UTF-8 it may get corrupted.
2.We were insisting on FTP as this Protocol is made for File Transfer. This "protocol" is universal just like http, https, gopher....So it will work on any OS.
3.Last resort would be to restore files from backup, if you have any.
Thanks for your patience and cooperation.

I do know what FTP is thank you, I've just never even heard of FileZilla - I've always used WSFTP Pro for my FTP needs.

The reason I did not use FTP in the first place, is because I don't WANT to use FTP.

Maybe I'm just being pig-headed, but when i work on this site from 3 different computers (well, really 4+ as I work on this site in class, and am always at a different computer each day), I don't want to be downloading a copy of the file, working on it, then trying to remember to upload it back to the site again.

Sometimes, I'm busy doing other things and it slips my mind. At school, if it slips my mind and I log out, I lose everything I've done, because on logout it resets anything that's managed to save itself to the C drive. I've had this happen before with schoolwork, I don't want this happening with any pages of my site I work on. With the File Manager, I can just hit save wait for it to pop up saying it saved, then just close the window.

I chose to use the HTML Editor PROVIDED by the hosting company, because its a better option for me.

As to my files being corrupted: they're not. I can view my html pages with absolutely no problems. Before and after re-uploading them to the website. The error persists even when I create a brand new .html file on my website containing 3 words of text. I mean come on.

I get this error whether my files are English or English UTF-8 (I've tried both trying to fix this problem.)

The issue is again, when i attempt to edit them via Edit HTML via File Manager & Legacy File Manager.

On IE I get a 404 error.. On Firefox, I get this popping up:

Looks like an issue with the coding for the WYSIWIG editor, as my coding doesn't start til

Are you missing some files which are needed for the WYSIWYG editor perhaps???

I've been on the IIRC channel twice now trying to get help from a staff member. Both times I waited over an hour for help, and both times I received no help what-so-ever. I've ended up logging out in frustration.

If I can't get any help for this issue, then I'm just going to end up deleting my account and reconsidering actually paying for an account here because this is just absurd with the lack of support.

So you are saying that when you try using the "code editor" in the file manager you get a 404 error? If this is the case i will test this out for myself and see.

I have checked your cPanel to make sure there was no errors on our part. I could not find any errors that would show me a 404.

Absurd with lack of support? Do not even get me started. I spend 15-18 hours a day working on issues. I am sorry i can't get to everyones issue. I think the issue has to do with the operator. I have tried to recreate the errors in your cPanel and yet i failed to do so. I see you still have the default index in place as well as another blah.html which will not show since you have the default index in place.

Now i would suggest learning some html/php and understanding how to create a website before blaming the staff here.

I am not trying to be rude i just get a little upset with people blaming us for their errors.

So I was on the Cpanel forums, and found others with the same problem as myself. Apparently the HTML Editor is screwy, and the code just stops running after upgrades at times.

Anyways I'm done. You can close the ticket, or delete it now. Thx.
