Files not deleting

I installed wordpress before and then uninstalled it. Now I am trying to install it again but when I try to use the fantastico auto installer, it comes up with the error that there are still files left from the last installation. I go into the file manager and find the files that need deleting, but when the directory refreshes, the files are still there and are not deleted.
