So i am wondering about how people feel about firefox.

I don't really like it, its basicly the micrsosft windows of the internet.

They took a grip on the web when IE was not very good and every other website could exploit IEs security flaws.

Many of the reasons that i hear people say they like it, genrally are not valid.

I usually use Opera, and if i need to, i open IE 7, since many people are igonrant of Opera.

Many people say that Firefox is faster than IE, which my experince as said otherwise.

Many people have said that Firefox is more secure than IE, which i find not true.

The main reason i don't use IE all the time is because its tricky sometimes when when saving passwords.

So i wana know why people here use firefox.

I use firefox but I agree with you entirely. It really does suck. It has memory leaks, its unstable, and a massive bloated browser. However, I use it because of compatibility. I have never found a site not to work with it, whereas with Opera I have found several.

I don't use IE because it is Windows-only and I don't see it as being any better than firefox.

Firefox is Firefox. I use it as my main browser, and LOVE it. I also have Opera, but don't use it. I like Firefox's sleekness, and it is a great tool to have for your web development, especially if you have the Web Developer, and FireBug Plug-ins.

Firefox is real good. It is setting the standards for other browsers to compete with it.

January's browser statistics seem to disagree with you. Microsoft holds a much higher percentage of the PC operating system market than 37%, and still holds over half the web browsing community.

lol

i mean windows was the most sucessfull to mass produce and mass distribute an operating system, which is why its a standerd now.

specially if you have the Web Developer, and FireBug Plug-ins
i don't like fancy web developers, and opera has its own tools, http://dev.opera.com/tools/

It is setting the standards for other browsers to compete with it.

not really, since verson 2 does not follow standerds set by http://www.webstandards.org/

also, you can edit sourceode to pages in opera.

I don't really care. Whatever gets me online and gets the job done is what I use.

I thought browsers were meant to comply with standards set by the W3C ;)
I read a bit more into that actually; it seems that's the group that is supposedly "responsible" for trying to get people to conform to those standards.

Which makes me laugh that he's even accusing Firefox of breaking them; the last 3 versions of my site (before Joomla) were W3C compliant, rendered properly in firefox, and didn't render even remotely properly in IE.

Ironic, isn't it?

Also supermatt, you might wanna change that statement about how opera can modify the source code to pages - the way it's worded makes it sound like Firefox can't even with plugins.

Bad news. Firebug, which is in the post you quoted, does just that.

dude, its still a PLUGIN

why are people like that, trying to disprove things by streching it.

if you could disprove the usability or functionality bo an addon or mod, then these arguments would be useless.

sure, IE only runs on windows, but with wine, you can run it on linux, which kills anyones debate that ie is wondows only.

And thus you fall straight into the trap :)

Sorry for setting you up for that, but all these "which is better" arguments are pretty useless - use whatever you want that does what you need it to. If that means MSPaint over Photoshop, then so be it (contrary to popular belief not everyone needs photoshop, corel draw, paint shop pro, or anything other than paint - paint works just fine for some people :) ).

Still using firefox over IE any day though; IE couldn't render something that followed the W3C standards properly, and that's just not good.

Not to be rude or anything, but how can you make professional looking graphics with Microsoft Paint? Photoshop and the other professional tools were made for a reason, to let professionals create beautiful art. I doubt that you can do that with Microsoft Paint.

I didn't say everyone could use paint to do what they wanted - I don't think the overwhelming majority of people could do in paint what they can in photoshop, but that doesn't stop some people from doing magic with paint: http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1728017

Just a note on that as well: whether it's done with a mouse or not barely matters - a steady hand can draw miracles on paper with pen, so what would stop a steady hand and a tablet pc/drawing tablet from doing the same?

No where did I say you could create professional graphics with paint. But not everyone's trying to make professional graphics either. Not everyone's trying to do in-line source-code editing either. For some people, IE's fine because all the sites they browse render properly in ie. For others, firefox or opera or any of the others are needed. Firefox happens to seem more popular than Opera, and of course I'm biased the firefox way - at last test, Opera takes 8 seconds to load, although I don't get why (that's around the same time as IE does on this PC, but IE does it because my firewall doesn't have IE set to the white-list so it asks me if it should let it load or not). Firefox loads in 4, hence I'm biased towards the fiery fox.

If it works for what you need it for, great. If it doesn't, people can use Google and find what will - I don't particularly like polls where there appears to be an inherent bias one way or the other (translation: I hate pretty much every poll that comes out).

Off the subject: There's some bit of controvercy about that MSPaint God video I linked above; that's understandable - there's a minor popup that comes up at one or possibly two points during the drawing process. I'm all but 100% sure that's one of those trial popups for a recording program, begging him to register to remove the popup.

God knows I've seen enough of those before I discovered better freeware :)

@supermatthew: Sorry for setting up the trap there, just trying to prove a point (and in retrospect I'm not sure I can remember _what_ point I was trying to prove, but I'm sure it's there somewhere :shifty:)

Edit: Huh, even after previewing like 5 times I'm STILL coming off as an arrogant punk....Dangit. Guess I'll have to live with it, it's kinda my personality when I start arguing >_<

I need to stop posting for about 3 hours and calm down now :(

lol you remind me of my self so much. i like to argue, and have whole forums hate my guts because of it, cause im right, and there all wrong :shifty:.

i sometimes set traps like yours, but not often. i like to use Reverse psychology and other areas like it to get what i want.

like battleship, if someones not exactly active or awake, they often choose a location of were they placed there own ships. So once in a while repeate them or ask it in a few rounds. Works for me.

i also have a habit of getting people to say things they normally would not, although half the time thtas from anoying them.

anway, anyone wana chalange me to anything on firefox? since im right and your wrong <.<

I use Firefox and love it. The dictionary add-on is great (My spelling isn't that good), also I have found that Firefox loads faster than IE, and crashes less.
