Flickr… Although a technically unpronounceable word, it is an excellent example of a community site done correctly. It is not just a site, it’s an entire experience based around photography. Users simply snap photos with his or her digital camera and upload it to Flickr. The photos can be stored on Flickr without any kind of involvment in the Flickr community, but that is rather dull way of doing things. To fully explore the incredible Flickr experience one must be able to take his or her photos and become friends with complete strangers who live many thousands of miles away.

If this seems too much for you, then you probably do not wish to become a part of the Flickr community. However, If you like the thought of it, then by all means, continue reading.

Wow, that sounds very interesting! I had thought about joinging webshots, but I was worried there could be a chance of someone stealing my pictures, is there some form of protection at Flickr? Thanks for this post!
