Ok, this is a guide that should hopefully spare some people the myriad frustrations and many countless hours of screaming that I have endured, working with the new WIN os.

1st-rip out your hard drive w/ vista installled (because MS has decided that letting you uninstall short of completely wiping the drive is a BAD thing)

B. Go buy you a shiny new 7200/200g, and reinstall win-xp pro. (cmon we all know you have it bittorrent-ed)

3a.Game On!

Now, enjoy! Massive resource hogging and endless security confirmation dialouges are now things of the past!

i don't get this tutorial, after paying $300 for vista then $200 for a drive this is very costly to get an operating system 6 years old.

$200 for a drive? Where are you shopping?

I can get a 7200rpm SATA 1.5 300gb drive for $70: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148290

Solved!

And you could call it pricy if it wasn't for Vista being SUCH a PITA to get running and keep running; system requirements for it without disabling the fancy stuff is more than I have in any one of the pc's running in this house right now (not good since I can run UT2004 which, imo, looks a hell of a lot better than Vista).

Hi,

Since vista is in its initial stage, i will not be able to deliver all functionalities to the existing system. many software will have compatibility issues with vista. But once everyone starts to use vista. it will be rocking

I am on vista right now and i personally love it.

I dont see any problems with it. The only complaint that i have is the

little pop up asking for access but on second thought i kind of like it,

Vista is a great OS if you give it a chance.

Hi Even i have vista, but without the aero effects since i am not having any addon graphic card. But love it. about the pop up, it was a blessing in disguise for me. Once i double clicked my pen drive, and it a pop up came saying do you want to execute it. then only i realised that it was a virus program attached to my pendrive autorun property. If it was xp, i would have to reinstall the entire xp because the os will be corrupted by the virus. So say thanks to the pop up.

I think Vista is quite good. It may have a thousand and one bugs unlike XP which has been out 6 years or so and so has had ages to get rid of the bugs! I'm on vista right now and theres only a few things I hate about it like the compatitbility problems with old programs. Other I love it.

Yeah the box comes up when you(/your comp) attempts to do anything important. Quite annoying when it comes up all the time, but better against viruses etc. MS borrowed the idea from linux of course, where it seems to pop up much less frequently...

I somewhat agree, the popup is annoying when you first start, i've been running vista since beta 1, I don't even notice the popups anymore, it's become second nature to just go ahead and center the mouse where the allow button will show. But, you do have to look at 2 things.. One is that sp1 for vista is _already_ fixing to be released, however.. xp still has issues. Hence sp3 fixing to be released for it. My real suggestion; go with linux. Wish I could practice what I preach. I am stuck with windows because of work related programs.

Vista in my opinion will be WAY better than XP. Most features that you guys are complaining about can be turned off with a flip of a switch.

I have full compatibility with all the programs I use, its FAST on a Regular P4 Comp. I have two partitions on my comp and yes, I have XP installed on the first Partition.
