Just a little bit of pedantry here: FTP certainly does work -- it's one of the core protocols of the internet (and networking in general).
If you are having trouble getting FTP to work on your account, that's a support issue, and it should be posted in the Free Hosting forum. If you can connect to the server using an FTP client to initiate the transfer, then the chances are pretty good that the problem has to do with the server or your account configuration rather than something you're doing at your end.
The problem with posting administrative support issues outside of the Free Hosting forum (the support forum) is that the people who can actually help with the problem -- people who have access to the tools needed to check out issues on the server -- are far less likely to see it. If the problem needs to be escalated from a Community Support issue to an actual trouble ticket, we can't do that from here (it's a simple click of a button in the support area).
(Similarly, programming issues and issues with third-party scripts and so on are best posted in their dedicated forums -- the people who can actually help are most likely to be lurking there rather than in "Off Topic", which is meant as a channel for meaningless chatter. Not that there's anything wrong with chatter -- it's that chatter that makes the community a community.)
