Hi, I'm a new user here. I can't seem to get my FTP to work. I was using my original FTP software (Ace FTP3 Freeware) and used the manual settings suggested. Although I could connect, I kept getting a "no such directory or folder" error message for what was supposed to be my web root folder.

I did get my files uploaded using the File Manager function of the CPanel, but I'd still like to get the FTP working if possible.

I downloaded and installed Core FTP and the self-configuration files for it from x10, but even THAT didn't work. I still got the error message.

I'd like to get this up and running perfectly because I'm using it to help raise sponsorship funds for a friend who is participating in a charity event. (If you're curious, you can see it at: http://helpafriend.x10hosting.com/ )

Thanks in advance for any help!

James

How do you have the FTP client set up? Sounds like it isn't configured properly.

if you want to prove to yourself that things are working, please try the following

From a command line (command prompt for windows, term for linux) type the following commands, replace any text in <> marks with the relevant info

ftp helpafriend.x10hosting.com
<cpanellogin>
<cpanelpassword>
cd public_html
ls
bye

If after that it listed some files and then quit - all was good.
If not, please report any errors it came back with

Thanks for the tech info, bugfinder. I didn't know it was possible to ftp from a command prompt (I am familiar with it; got my first PC in the DOS 3.2 era).

Unfortunately, I could only get to the user field and no further. It accepted my username, but when I tried to input my password, nothing happened. It was like the keyboard was disconnected! It wouldn't take any input at all.

So I hit the Enter key, got the "login failed" message, and then was able to input "bye" and end the session.

Very strange...
