Getting date from MySql according to my timezone and emails

Hi.
I was wondering if I could set MySql the way that it stores date and time in GMT +5.30 (Indian Standard Time)??


Second thing,
If I use php's mail() function with my free hosting account, will it work? will it send any mails?
