>>>>2006 US GTI NOTES:<<<<
- The US Spec GTI is produced in Wolfsburg.
- The US Spec GTI does have a higher ride height than the Euro Spec GTI so as to gain higher crash test ratings. This can be adjusted with the purchase of OEM Euro Springs or aftermarket suspension.
- The US GTI has the same shocks as the EURO GTI!
- The US Spec GTI's Plaid Cloth Sport Seats are not as bolstered as the Top-Leather Sport Seats or Euro Spec Plaid Cloth Sport Seats.
- The cloth seats are not available as heated. Only the leather seats.
- A number of GTI's produced have open lower, side grill (where the fog lights are) where as a number have closed grills. Possible theories are that it has to do with DSG vs manual, or Tropical Zone cars vs standard... but neither has real grounds of evidence, so it is currently a mystery as to why there are 2 different grills. It is possible that at one time one of those theories was correct and VW decided to change policy.
- The rear taillights on the GTI are not LED, though aftermarket LEDs are currently available.
- The inner headlight on the GTI/GLI are flass to pass lights. Used to flash "brights" when driving with HID headlamps off.
- Launch Control (DSG only) has been disabled for US Spec 2006 GTIs but is expected to be introduced to the American market in the 2007 model year.
- The GTI is NOT available with Rain-Sensing Wipers, Auto-Dimming Rear-View Mirror, or Auto Headlights.
- The GTI does NOT have a 12v outlet above the Ebrake lever as GLIs and Jettas do.
- The US Spec GTI comes standard with the same 17" wheels that come standard on the GLI. The Euro Spec GTI 17" wheel ( a smaller, silver-painted version of the 18" Hufweisen wheel) will not be available on the US Spec GTI.
- The Phone Button on the GTI/GLI steering wheel currently does nothing. In the future VW plans to integrate an OEM hands free phone system for the American market. Dealerships can currently integrate a Motorola bluetooth system but the cost is extremely high.
- The GTI does NOT come with HomeLink.
