Help Customizing Wordpress

okay, after doing a bit of research i finally realise what i need to do is customize the html coding to make my site unique

the problem is i know abosolutely nothing of html - if that's even the right term - css maybe?

anyway i was wondering if someone could help me do this as i begin to cry everytime i look at the coding (not really, but i get a nasty headache from it)

i just need the layout/design to be taken care of. the adding/editing of content is obviously something i can do myself (i hope)
