Help starting my website.

I can't figure out where to upload my php/htm files to in file manager. I uploaded them to the main directory and nothing happens at my website, it just says index of/ cgi-bin. I tried naming the main file index.htm but nothing happens. Please help.

Your files go into the directory: public_html
