Help with .htaccess file

Okay...so yesterday I decided to go to my site just for the heck of it and got an Internal 500 error blah blah blah...I posted for help and was told that it is my .htaccess file causing the problem. (I have looked through my file manager and can find no such file, maybe thats the problem?) If I type in http://www.sparkstudiosink.com/index.html the page displays fine.... how do I fix this? I am not familiar with coding or the like so please bear that in mind...

Okay I figured it out....I had a .htaccess file in the root directory that wasn't supposed to be there ( I think)...when I pulled it out the main URL displayed fine, thanks though...
